December 11, 2011 Dear Friends, This past summer the Honorable Marianne E. Becker Fund awarded over $8,000 in grants to restorative justice programs in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Our support will help the Addiction Resource Council run the “Your Choice Accelerator Program.” Our funding will also assist the Mediation and Restorative Justice Center in operating their “Teen Court” while helping the Cops’ n Kids Foundation expand their mission to new areas of the county. Since our incorporation in late 2004 we’ve awarded over $15,000 to the most important of organizations and programs. We have been no more than 5 volunteer board members, some of which have served since the fund’s incorporation, that have believed restorative justice works and that programs are in need of financial support. We’re proud to say that we have successfully reached every restorative justice program within the county. For over seven years our board has put its critical mission in your hands. And, for over seven years, your amazing generosity and kind words have left us speechless. Time and time again your gift has allowed our tiny fund to make such a large impact on the lives of many. Your confidence in us has only grown and our friends now touch all four corners of the country and areas between. Thank you for your contributions even through what has been a very difficult and uncertain economy. Our family at the Honorable Marianne E. Becker Fund recently made an important decision to discontinue our operations at the end of 2011. Our decision was not made with sadness. Rather, it was made with a quiet confidence. Simply put, we feel that we have fulfilled our mission that my mother, the late Honorable Marianne E. Becker, started. One result of the poor economy is that there are no new restorative justice programs attempting to organize. As a group, we feel that we can’t continue to fundraise for just the same few programs that remain. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize a few people. Ms. Claudia Roska and Mr. Brad Schimel, Director of the Addiction Resource Council and the current Waukesha County District Attorney respectively. Despite their outrageous schedules they’ve remained committed to our Board of Directors since our incorporation. To Ms. Cathy Warmington and Mr. Todd McDonnell, our two other outstanding Board Members, thank you for teaching me the true meaning of restorative justice. To my father, John Becker, thank you for never sending a legal bill for all your consultations. Ms. Shari Prag, President of Duckie and Company LLC, you designed and maintained our site since the beginning and you never once sent us an invoice. Your generosity was noted by us all and we thank you. To my wife, Melissa Becker, we would not have obtained our 501c3 status if it weren’t for your countless hours and expertise. Thank you. Last, but certainly not least, to you, our friend of the Becker Fund. Thank you for your words of encouragement, your financial support and walking this journey with us all the way through to the end. Sincerely, Scott L. Becker |
